Financial Advisors: Do You Make Any Of These Content Marketing Mistakes?
From: James Pollard
Many financial advisors believe they should create content based on the questions their clients ask them. This is dangerous advice because it can backfire if not done correctly. Some advisors believe they should prioritize short-form content because people have short attention spans. Yet, did you know that your best clients are likely to be turned off by skimpy content? So, tread with caution. Other advisors believe their content should be informative or educational. It breaks my heart when I see financial advisors trying to teach in their content because it’s a surefire way to hinder results. But those mistakes are small potatoes compared to the most common mistake of all... Not knowing how to create content that successfully transitions people from readers, viewers, or listeners into clients. I’d like to show you the solution to all of those mistakes and more. Keep reading… Why Do So Many Financial Advisors Make These Mistakes? What is the reason so many financial advisors struggle to get clients with their content marketing? Why is it that some have written dozens of blog posts with nothing to show for it? Why do so many advisors start podcasts that never receive more than a few hundred downloads? Or worse, a YouTube channel that can't get more than a few dozen views per video after years of uploading?
I once ran an experiment where I created content for a secret YouTube channel and got 19,030 views in my first 28 days, and I'm not even a YouTuber!
What did I do differently? I used the content marketing methods revealed on this page. Not only did they work for me on YouTube, but they've also worked for me in my blog posts, podcast episodes, and emails I've created over the years. (More on that later.) The reason content marketing seems so difficult, so frustrating, and so time-consuming is clear... Most financial advisors do not get the results they want because they have never been shown a better way. Fortunately, I have a better way. I've spent years of my life and hundreds of thousands of dollars of my own money piecing together my wickedly effective content marketing strategy. My proven content marketing process has already helped thousands of financial advisors correct their content marketing mistakes. Now it can help you, too. Here's how... Why You Should Listen To Me...Financial advisors ask me for content marketing advice all the time, and who can blame them?
I've created 250+ episodes of a podcast called the "Financial Advisor Marketing" podcast. And before that, I had the now-defunct "The Advisor Coach" podcast. Altogether, my podcast episodes have been downloaded more than a million times. But I'm not a one-trick pony, like some of the unscrupulous people trying to sell financial advisors their garbage marketing services...
Because I've also written 100+ blog articles, and they have received more than a million views as well. Actually, my website routinely receives more than 100,000 visitors every few months. Here's a screenshot I took in early February 2024 when I decided to go public with these content marketing techniques... Plus, I've written 2,500+ emails for myself alone. I've been publishing a paper-and-ink newsletter for several years, too.
In total, I have written more words than are in the Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and The Chronicles of Narnia books combined. Oh, and I've been helping financial advisors with their content marketing efforts for the better part of a decade now. I've seen the best of the best and the worst of the worst. I've assisted advisors with everything from blog articles to social media posts to online articles and more. Long story short, if it's in the content marketing realm, I have either personally done it or helped someone with it. I tell you all of this to show you that I am probably the most qualified person in the world to help financial advisors with their content marketing. Because I want you to slow down, pay attention, and read this letter very carefully. Are you ready? I'm about to show you the better way… But First, Read This Disclaimer...Please understand that my results are not typical. I'm not implying you'll duplicate them (or do anything for that matter).
The average person who buys any "how to" information gets little to no results. As with all of my products, my references are used for example purposes only. I've had years of experience being a content marketer and helping thousands of financial advisors with their marketing. My results should be considered exceptional. Your results will vary and depend on many factors... including but not limited to your background, experience, work ethic, and the content you've created thus far. All business entails risk as well as massive effort and action. If you're not willing to accept that, please DO NOT GET THIS. With that said, let me show you what I think is… The Best Content Marketing Advice Ever Assembled For Financial Advisors...Earlier, I mentioned that I have been publishing a paper-and-ink newsletter for several years. That newsletter is called The James Pollard Inner Circle, and financial advisors happily pay $99 per month to receive it. I have subscribers all across America and in multiple countries throughout the world.
(Especially in Canada. For some reason, Canadians love me, and I love them back.) Well, the February 2024 issue was the longest, most comprehensive, and most in-depth issue I ever wrote. It was 25 pages long and I called it... “The Content Issue.” It contained my best hard-won content marketing advice. Years of effort were condensed into its 25 pages.
Financial advisors who received this incredible information told me it was like me sitting next to them and telling them exactly what to do to get more clients from their content. And the best part? I'm Making This Client-Getting Information Available For You To Download As A PDF...That means you can begin implementing my content advice guidance in as little as a few minutes.
Here’s a glimpse of what’s inside…
A note about that last point... Many financial advisors fail to get clients from their content marketing efforts because their content does nothing to build trust. Since the financial advice business is primarily a relationship business, it’s critical to help prospective clients know, like, and trust you. In fact, dozens of prospective clients have privately confessed to me that the biggest reason why they didn’t reach out to particular advisors was because they didn’t feel as if they knew them. Fortunately, this is an easy fix that can lead to an immediate increase in email opt-ins, form fills, and appointments set from your content.
Here's What To Do Next...The required investment to possess these 25 hallowed pages is $500.
That is a drop in the bucket compared to things like… Conferences, where travel costs could be five times that… Multi-thousand-dollar courses from people who have never created content specifically for financial advisors… Or, heaven forbid, content marketing agencies that charge you hundreds of dollars per month for their “content libraries.” Lol. You know, the canned content that's cranked out by low-paid people somewhere in Asia. And to make matters worse, all of their other customers have access to the exact same thing. Truthfully, you could hire a custom content marketing agency to create content specifically for you. But there are two problems with that. The first problem is that they may or may not have real, hands-on experience with financial advisors. The second problem is, even if they do have experience, their prices will start at several thousand dollars per month. As soon as you place your order, you'll get a link with the PDF delivered immediately to your inbox.
(It's important to note that this investment in your business may be tax-deductible as well.) You're getting a link, so you can download the entire thing and read it right away. You can access it anywhere, immediately, without having to wait by the mailbox. And if you're thinking that $500 is a lot of money… Here's Why You Should Gleefully Give Me $500 For This 25-Page PDF Download...I've already discussed how $500 is peanuts compared to alternatives like conferences requiring arduous travel, poorly-done content marketing courses, shoddy canned content firms, and extortionate content marketing agencies.
But let's focus on the upside… According to a company called ZipDo, conversion rates are about six times higher for content marketing campaigns compared to traditional outbound campaigns. But that's not all, because they also found:
Then, perhaps the most spectacular finding… The average return on investment (ROI) for content marketing is $2.77 for every $1 spent. Pretty impressive, huh? Well, I want to stress that this is AVERAGE. Since many business owners are horrible marketers, it means that the few who do a good job with content marketing likely experience much greater returns. And to sweeten the deal even more, I'm throwing in three amazing bonuses… BONUS #1: "10 Lessons From My First 1 Million Website Visitors" Video, Free...If you have a website, then this can help you. This is the information I wish I had before publishing my site. It would’ve saved me so much time and trouble.
Here’s a preview of what’s inside this 34-minute video:
You'll get instant access to this 34-minute video as soon as you make the investment in yourself, along with... BONUS #2: "10 Lessons From My First 1 Million Podcast Downloads" Video, Free...In this 35-minute video, I distill the things I wish I knew before starting my podcasting journey. I reveal the things that have made the biggest difference for me so far.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a podcast, either. Because these ten lessons have direct carryover to many other forms of content, like social media posts, blog posts, emails, webinars, and more. I reveal:
And so much more. I can’t believe I’m including this for free, but I genuinely want to help you hit the ground running with your content marketing efforts. BONUS #3: My "Perfect Content Checklist" PDF Download, Free...This is a one-page PDF meant to be kept handy whenever you're creating content. You can also use it to improve your existing content.
You can save it to your computer, print it out, and even laminate it if you wish. I can't think of a single financial advisor doing any sort of content marketing who couldn't benefit from having this checklist. Because it's a quick, concise way to rapidly make sure your content checks all the right boxes... literally. 😆 One final note… There Are No Refunds And All Sales Are Final...Why? Three reasons...
First, this is some of my best work. It wouldn’t be fair for me to allow someone to purchase it, gobble up all the information, and ask for a refund. (Believe it or not, there are some lowlifes out there who would do that if given the chance.) Second, anyone who needs the safety net of a money-back guarantee is neither psychologically nor emotionally ready to implement much of what’s discussed. Third, this is the same information my Inner Circle members received in the February 2024 newsletter issue. Since my newsletter comes with a strict "no refunds" policy, it would be unfair for me to offer one here. Besides, the information has already proven itself effective. So, if you have any doubts about this offer or my ability to help you create content that converts prospective clients into booked appointments, then I recommend passing on this offer. P.S. Here are seven of the most common objections I hear from advisors about content marketing:
1. They think they don't have enough time to produce quality content. I get it. They're often busy with client meetings, financial planning, and other business opportunities. Thankfully, I've discovered a few ways to make the process faster, and I share them in "The Content Issue." 2. They're uncertain how to measure ROI. I'll admit it can be difficult to measure ROI. For example, it's hard for me to know exactly who does what as a result of my "Financial Advisor Marketing" podcast. People could listen to fifteen episodes in a row, take a break, and finally come back to me six months later. On the other hand, measuring ROI from things like blog articles and social media posts is much easier. You just have to pay attention to who is setting appointments with you and where those people come from. 3. They don't think they have the necessary skills to create content. Fortunately, content creation doesn't have to be difficult. And ironically, being more skilled can be harmful if you're trying to get more clients. Because the skills most content marketing gurus teach are different from the skills required to convert prospective clients. That means if you're trying to learn content marketing from books, courses, or other experts who haven't worked with financial advisors, then you're likely doing more harm than good. 4. They struggle to come up with content ideas. I agree this can be tough if you don't know what to do. But "The Content Issue" covers this as well. I reveal several reliable sources of proven content ideas financial advisors can use. 5. They worry about compliance. The financial industry is heavily regulated, and advisors often worry about ensuring that their content complies with all regulatory standards. Well, compliance departments usually love my content marketing methods. Because I advocate against talking about money or investments. In fact, if you're talking about personal finance at all, then you're likely making some grave errors. 6. They think content marketing takes too long. Candidly, content marketing does take more time to work than many other marketing strategies. You're out of luck if you think one piece of content will transform your business. It won't. But there are a few methods you can employ to speed up the process and get results faster than others. I detail exactly what they are in "The Content Issue" as well. 7. They're overwhelmed by all the platforms and choices available to them and don’t know where to begin. This is a valid concern. There are so many choices these days that it can feel like too much. My general advice is to lean into your personality. For instance, if you are an introvert, then you will likely find more success writing than you will hosting live webinars. If you love to talk, then hosting a live podcast might be a viable option for you. In my biased opinion, the best place to begin is with the offer I'm making to you here. Don't waste another second pouring time, effort, and money into convert that fails to convert when these secrets are within your grasp. This is your chance to step up, stand out, and secure the clients and recognition you deserve from your content. But, I understand, the path to content marketing mastery isn't for everyone. It's for those ready to commit, to learn, and to apply the principles that have proven successful time and time again. If you're ready to differentiate yourself in the crowded market of financial advisors, then "The Content Issue" is for you. Your future clients are waiting.
