Wolf And Shepherd Review (Don't Buy Their Shoes Until You Read This)
I can’t believe I spent the first 26 years of my life buying low-quality dress shoes.
Unfortunately, that’s the route most guys take. Sure, they may THINK they’re getting a nice pair of shoes from Allen Edmonds, Clarks, or Stacy Adams… but they’re sadly mistaken…
Because unless you’ve experienced a pair of Wolf & Shepherd shoes, you haven’t lived.
I discovered Wolf & Shepherd about six months ago because my friend Mike wouldn’t stop talking about them….
Yet, when I went to their website I saw that ONE pair of shoes (the Closer Cap Toes) was $345.
What?! I could go to my local shoe store right now and get a pair of Rockports for a hundred bucks…
I was curious how Wolf & Shepherd got so popular while charging so much.
(Because up until that point, the most expensive pair of shoes I bought was a pair of Cole Haans for $180 from a discount store.)
So, I took the plunge and ordered a pair. They offer returns, anyway.
Here’s my story…

My Review Of Wolf & Shepherd Shoes
As I said, my friend Mike wouldn’t stop talking about how great his Wolf & Shepherd shoes were. I have to admit, they did feel ridiculously comfortable.
And the idea behind these shoe makes sense…
Because for the longest time, I’ve wondered why dress shoe companies didn’t make their shoes as comfortable as sneakers.
It seemed obvious to me. Simply take the ideas behind ultra-comfortable sneakers and insert them into dress shoes.
You didn’t have to make dress shoes ugly but at least make the darn things comfortable.
After all, some of us working stiffs have to wear dress shoes all day.
Wolf & Shepherd solved that problem by making classy-looking dress shoes that are as comfortable as sneakers.
He kept bugging me to try them, but when I saw their prices, I got sticker shock.
Then, he showed me that Wolf & Shepherd has free returns and will give you a full refund if you return the shoes within 30 days.
So, I whipped out the ol’ credit card and ordered my first pair.
Shipping was free and they arrived at my house one day faster than expected. It was a nice surprise to come home and find the shoes waiting for me on my doorstep.
The specific pair I got was the Closer Cap Toe, which you see in the photo above.
It comes in four colors - onyx, oak, maple, and honey. I got "honey".
It’s one of their best-sellers, with hundreds of five-star reviews.
The first I noticed when I took them out of the package was how soft the leather was. They source all of their leather from the finest Italian manufacturers. And not only is the calfskin super soft, but it has this water-resistant finish to keep your feet dry and your shoes unharmed.
After spending a few seconds rubbing the leather (so soft!) I tried them on.
“Wow! Take THAT, Rockport!” I thought.
It was like a whole new world. I couldn’t believe I lived my entire life without having shoes like these.
I started walking around. I jogged in place. Then, I went outside to take them for a spin.
They felt like… sneakers.
It was weird. Because I would close my eyes and it would feel like I was wearing a pair of running shoes.
And usually, dress shoes feel rigid and stiff when you first try them on. Not these. They already felt “broken in”, which means I wouldn’t need to suffer for the first few days.
I can’t speak for the rest of the shoes, but the Closer Cap Toes are seen as more formal shoes. They can easily be pulled off in dressed up or dressed down looks. For a nicer event (like a black tie gala or something) then I would wear these.
What Makes Wolf & Shepherd Different?
The concept behind Wolf & Shepherd is simple - they make quality footwear that supports your active lifestyle. Of course, I don’t think you’ll be running around in dress shoes (although you could) but finding a pair of high-quality, good looking dress shoes that you can wear all day is like finding a needle in a haystack.
In their own words, “polished, professional style has never felt this good”.
And I agree.
It’s hard to do them justice with an online review but I’m trying my best. :-)
The company was founded by a former Adidas designer named Justin Schneider. During his time at Adidas, he had a conversion with a friend about a problem that was all too common in the professional world: uncomfortable dress shoes.
Preach! Can I get an amen??
Well, Justin had a simple idea…
Instead of forcing yourself to wear uncomfortable dress shoes all day, or switching to sneakers in-between, why not just mold together the best of each shoe?
And that’s what he did.
He mocked up the very first Wolf & Shepherd prototype by gluing the foam heel of his running shoe to the sole of a pair of dress shoes and the world has never been the same since. Because now Wolf & Shepherd is redefining the modern dress shoe.
What Makes The Quality So Good?
I’m not the shoe aficionado - my friend, Mike, is. I can only report what he tells me, and he insists that these are some of the most well-made shoes he’s ever seen.
(And this is coming from a guy who’s spent $1,000+ on dress shoes…)
Wolf & Shepherd manages to maintain a high level of craftsmanship through three steps:
And with 1,500 five-star reviews, they must be doing something right…
How Do They Fit?
The sizing feels good. If anything, the shoes run SLIGHTLY large compared to some of the other dress shoes I’ve worn in the past.
However, this isn’t a big deal for me because I wear thick socks. I wear a size 13 running shoe and I wear a size 13 with Wolf & Shepherd with no problem.
How Do You Take Care Of Them?
Even though these shoes are high-quality and built to last, you still want to take care of them to make them last as long as possible.
Besides, the more you can use a pair of shoes, the more value you can extract from them. For example, what would you rather have?
If you do the math, you’ll realize that the $300 shoes actually cost less than the $100 shoes. One of the best things I’ve ever done is focus on buying quality products. I buy very few things (I AM frugal) but when I buy something, I expect it to last.
Here’s how you take care of your Wolf & Shepherd shoes…
First, clean your shoes with a hard-bristle brush to remove all the surface residue.
Next, wipe the shoes with a damp cloth and allow them for air dry.
Once they’re dry, you want to apply a coat of the appropriate shoe cream with a cloth, paying extra attention to the creases. When you’ve applied the cream, wait about ten minutes for it to dry.
After you’ve applied the cream, brush your shoes one more time with the hard-bristle brush to remove any excess cream or residue. At this point, your shoes should look refreshed and like new, but if you want to keep going you can add wax.
When you wax your shoes, you make them nice and shiny. Wax is applied in the same way as cream is applied. You want to put it all over your shoe. Once the wax is applied, you’ll notice your shoes beginning to look a little misty. To fix this, take a drop of water on your cloth and apply it to the surface of your shoes. This causes the paraffin in the wax to rise, bringing out the shine.
If you REALLY want your shoes to shine, you can repeat the waxing process as many times as you like, alternating between a dab of wax and a dab of water. Once you’re happy with the results, leave the shoes to dry for about ten minutes.
"What If I Don't Like The Shoes?"
In the rare event that you’re not happy with your Wolf & Shepherd shoes, they offer free returns, so simply send them back. They provide a shipping label for you to make this process quick and painless.
They accept unworn, unused shoes in their original packaging. The only “catch” is that they must be returned within 30 days of your original purchase, although this is similar to a lot of other clothing retailers.
I personally recommend that you only order one pair to start with so you can see if you like them or not. If not, you can get your money back. And if you DO like them, you can always order more.
How's The Customer Support?
I reached out to them through their contact page because I had a few questions before purchasing the shoes and they got back to me within a few hours.
Other than that, I can’t really speak about their support because I haven’t had to use it much so far.
Icing On The Cake - They Take Payments...
This is something unique about Wolf & Shepherd that allows them to stand apart from many other retailers - they offer payments through a service called Affirm.
If you’ve never heard of it before, Affirm is a way for you to break up large payments into installments. When you get to the checkout page, just select the “Affirm” option and it will let you make three payments to get your new shoes.
If you’re someone who likes to make payments, it’s worth checking out on the Wolf & Shepherd website. It’ll be easier for you to understand there than for me to try and explain everything here.
Otherwise, you can just pay for your shoes in full.
The Bottom Line
I recently wore my Wolf & Shepherd shoes to a wedding and got a LOT of compliments on them. Quite frankly, I was surprised at how many people noticed them. Apparently, people pay a lot of attention to the shoes a person wears.
For the wedding, I left the house at 10 a.m. and didn’t get home until midnight. This means I wore the shoes for 14 hours straight and I’m happy to report that I still felt fine. My feet were slightly sore, but they would’ve been sore in sneakers too.
Moral of the story? Wolf & Shepherd shoes blow every other dress shoe I’ve ever had out of the water. Not only are they more comfortable, but they look better too. I’m a fan. If you’re someone who spends a lot of time on your feet and needs to wear dress shoes, I’m sure you’ll become a fan too.
